Good footwear is critical!
Let’s talk about shoes!
Why? On such paths it’s highly recommended to wear decent shoes:
Hiking shoes are the best solution. They should be preferred in all cases to low shoes or sneakers and they offer a good tread and protect your ankle. Both are necessary to stay accident-free.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money on this kind of shoe-wear (I bought my shoes at Lidl and they are great, also in the Alps). However, you should keep a few things in mind when you go shopping:
- Try out the shoes before you buy.
- Keep in mind to have enough space between your big toe and the tip of the shoe. (I tend to have a thumb’s space).
- Walk a few steps and see if you feel comfortable with them.
- Check the instructions if they are waterproof.
